What is an ISA arborist

The scientology of trees at hand..

In general, there are arborists.. and the there are licensed arborists.

An ISA licensed arborist has acquired mostly scientific knowledge of trees through passing an exam. The exam mainly focuses on aspects towards the science of trees, and worker safety. Acquiring that knowledge plays a key role in performing a number of tasks such as trimming, pruning, tree removal, etc. Understanding the science of how trees grow is vital when trying to diagnose certain problems with trees.

An arborist on the other hand may be somewhat versed in some of the same knowledge, but less likely. Although being licensed is not a requirement, it shows a higher level of commitment in the industry of arboriculture when one reaches that certain level. Due to that factor alone, a number of tree care companies make it a priority to at least have a specified number of licensed arborists on staff. At B.C. Tree Services, we provide one on every job.

Pro tip

When calling in a tree service to evaluate your job at hand, ask several key questions listed below:

  1. May i see your certificate of liability insurance?

   2. Would a licensed ISA arborist be performing my work, or will one be on-site?

   3. How long have you been working in the industry?

Be aware

Although some of us in the industry make things look easy, it takes a lot of experience to get to that level. The aspect often leads to people trying to perform our tasks.. and at times causing serious damage, physical injury, and sometimes even death. That is why it's pretty imperative to ask the questions listed above.
